Student visa

You need a study permit from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), based on a letter of acceptance from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and proof of funds. Rules for study permits change frequently, so check canada.ca before applying.

Scholarships

Most funding for international students comes from universities as entrance and merit scholarships. Graduate students may also receive research or teaching assistantships.

Planning your application

Most universities in Canada ask for academic transcripts, a statement of purpose, letters of recommendation and English test scores, and some programmes also need GRE, GMAT or SAT scores. Start 12 to 18 months before your intended intake.
