State Boards to Align with NCERT by 2027 — Class 11, 12 Syllabus Overhaul

NCERTState BoardPolicyNEP
The Ministry of Education has set a 2027 deadline for all state boards to align at least 80% of their Class 11-12 syllabus with NCERT guidelines. This decision aims to level the playing field for students appearing in CUET and other national exams.
Why This Change?
Students from non-NCERT state boards have been at a disadvantage in CUET, which is based primarily on NCERT content. The reform addresses this inequality.
Implementation Timeline
- 2025-26: Pilot in 5 states (UP, MP, Rajasthan, Bihar, Haryana)
- 2026-27: Extension to 15 more states
- 2027-28: All states mandatory
States That Already Follow NCERT
CBSE, CISCE, J&K, Uttarakhand, and several northeastern states already follow NCERT curriculum.
Reaction from Education Fraternity
Mixed reactions — state autonomy advocates are concerned while university admissions officials have welcomed the move as it will simplify CUET administration.
