National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences, popularly known as NIMHANS is an autonomous university located in Bangalore, Karnataka was established in 1974. NIMHANS was declared as an “Institute of National Importance” by the Government of India in 2012. The institute was conferred ‘Deemed to be University’ status by the University Grants Commission (UGC) in 1994. NIMHANS offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in mental health and neurosciences. Admission to all the courses is based on merit in the entrance test conducted by the institute itself. According to NIRF 2024, NIMHANS has placed 4th in the Medical Category.
